Hi, this is Sangyu

I am an industrial designer and illustrator from China (China citizenship, US permanent resident), currently pursuing a BS degree in industrial design at the University of Cincinnati.

My design philosophy takes root in integration and pragmatism. I believe that a good design needs to be necessary - it needs to be a useful and affordable invention in terms of functionality or philosophy. I design for helping people improve their life quality, eliminating social inequity, integrating evolving technology with the spare resources we have for a better world. As our society is undergoing an unprecedented challenge, ceasing intemperate materialism demands immediate action.

I also believe that the past contains lots of potential, which could inspire us to propose questions and solutions. With my inquisitiveness, I learned to speak fluently in 3 languages in order to seek inspiration across different cultures.

Design does not stand alone in itself. It overlaps with psychology, biology, social science, business, engineering and etc. The endless learning of design has brought me a tremendous amount of joy. Thus,  I see it as a cause for life.
